Gratitude
Welcome to Bay Woof, November 2021
Dearest Dog Lovers,
A year has passed since we re-launched Bay Woof as an e-magazine, and as we begin the Thanksgiving season, the theme of Gratitude leads the pack once again. In fact, gratitude has proved an essential tool for coping with pandemic life. Even in dark times, acknowledging that our blessings far outweigh our troubles has helped us hang on until we’re able to see the sun - or our friends and family - again.
This month, Bay Woof’s contributors give thanks for the special animals with whom they’ve shared their lives. Sharon Castellanos, founder of Grouchy Puppy, writes about the gift of loving a senior dog and the older adoptables at Muttville. Renowned Bay Area photographer Tonya Perme tells of finding beauty in the fragility of life. Trainer Paul Inman offers reflections on gratitude and rejoicing. And even the feline averse will melt at the story of Truman - a most dog-like cat.
Bay Woof is especially grateful to all who help bring you the best in dog news each month: Ren Volpe of GoDogPro; Kelly Gorman Dunbar of Sirius Dog Training; Cyd True of True Training 101; Sara Scott of Dog Training w/Sara; Nose for News author and Bay Woof editor S. Emerson Moffat; woof-reader Patty McLeod; everyone at the SF Animal Commission; Veterinarian Ilana Strubel; Mr. Smarty Pants Knows’ R.U. Steinberg; Red and Howling’s Amy Luwis; Bay Woof Foundation board members Nick Barbaro, Jody Colley, Val Langmuir, and our attorney Alex Lemberg for their love and support in giving this old dog a new life; many more who’ve helped in countless ways big and small; and last, but never least, Bay Woof’s donors, advertisers, contributors, and readers. Thank you for your faith in this community effort and for making it all worthwhile.
Whenever we feel lost or alone and need a fix of that precious gratitude to get us through, we need look no further than the nearest dog. With their big hearts and faithful souls, they’re always ready to give and receive thanks for life’s simple joys, wagging all the way.
Dogs have a lot to teach us. Let’s follow their lead.
Gratefully yours,
M Rocket

P.S. November is Senior Dog Month. Celebrate every Saturday in November with Muttville Senior Dog Rescue and consider adopting an older pup. You’ll be grateful you found love through the heart of a dog - and so will they!
