Welcome to the Dog Days

Here in the city we’re rolling into our usual late SF summer, alternating between parkas and shorts while much of the rest of the world swelters. Traditionally, San Francisco’s days of heat show up around the end of September, but with all the climate change these days, who knows if or when that’ll hit?

Luckily, our pups only care about being with us and living in the moment with very little concern for weather (unless some human’s trying to wrestle them into a *#&%! doggie raincoat). But whatever the summer’s like where you are, Bay Woof’s August issue is here for you!

This month’s collection of stories brings all the dogs to the yard with a variety of submissions from our talented community of Bay Woof contributors. Get ready to dig into articles from trainers Trish King, Ren Volpe, and Sara Scott; rescue organizations SPCA Monterey County, Berkeley Animal Care Services, and the East Bay SPCA; Dr. Lisa Franzetta with Griffin Acupuncture; Michael Angelo Torres of the SF Animal Commission; and Mary Hooker of the National Institute of Canine Service and Training. And of course, we’ve got the ever-popular Nose for News, Mr. Smarty Pants Knows, and Red and Howling to inform and brighten your day.

We’re grateful to the many skilled trainers and animal rescue advocates who share their knowledge and expertise with us each month. Together, they help us see the world through our dogs’ eyes. And if we can hold that uniquely canine view of love and hope in our hearts - even for a few moments - we’ll be doing just fine, no matter the weather.

Happy Dog Days!
